Hajime Iwaki

Hajime Iwaki is the founder and principal of the Law Office of Hajime Iwaki. He is admitted in Japan and California, with two decades of corporate practice at international firms — most recently as a partner and Head of Corporate at DLA Piper Tokyo, and previously at O'Melveny & Myers in Los Angeles and Tokyo. His practice has centered on cross-border M&A, joint ventures and corporate governance, alongside the commercial, employment and disputes work that multinational clients operating in Japan generate.

He founded the Law Office of Hajime Iwaki in 2016 to offer foreign GCs, HR directors, and country leads something the market was missing: senior, partner-level attention without the scale — or the price — of large domestic and international firms. Today the practice acts as outside General Counsel to foreign-owned Japan operations — corporate, commercial, employment, real estate, transactional and disputes work — delivered in English as the working language.
